• Utilizes Distributed Proofreaders -- volunteers provide a web-based method to ease the conversion of Public Domain books.

• Make all books in the public domain available for free in audio format.
• Powered by volunteers
• Audio files can augment text-based instruction

Why Project Gutenberg and not Google Books?

• Google Books is not full content, most is in "preview" mode
• Copyright settlement broken down into three categories
  1. In copyright & In print
  2. In copyright & Out of print
  3. Out of copyright & out of print

Assignment: Compare 1st and 6th edition of Origin of the Species.
Students found it very useful to compare two texts side by side.
